Cron Expression Explainer

Translate a cron schedule into plain English and see when it will run next.

The five fields

A standard cron expression has five fields: minute (0-59), hour (0-23), day of month (1-31), month (1-12 or JAN-DEC) and day of week (0-7 or SUN-SAT, where 0 and 7 are Sunday).

Special characters

  • * means every value.
  • , lists values: 1,15.
  • - is a range: 1-5.
  • / is a step: */10 is every 10.

Day of month and day of week together

When both fields are restricted, classic cron runs the job when either matches. This tool follows that rule. Times are computed in UTC; your server's cron may use another time zone.

Limits

This explainer supports the standard five-field syntax. Extensions such as seconds, L, W, # or @daily are not supported.
